Bolt, Usain St. Leo Bolt (August 21, 1986, Montego Bay, Jamaica), a Jamaican sprinter who won gold medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter races in a record three consecutive Olympic Games and is largely regarded as the best sprinter of all time.

During his adolescent years, Bolt, the son of grocers in the remote Trelawny parish of rural Jamaica, excelled as a cricket fast bowler. Real Madrid and Manchester United were two of his favorite soccer teams growing up, but his high school coaches encouraged him to focus on track and field instead because of his natural athletic ability. At the 2002 World Junior Championships, Bolt made his name as a track prodigy for the first time.

While competing in front of a 36,000-person capacity crowd at Jamaica’s National Stadium in Kingston, Bolt became the youngest-ever male world junior winner in the 200-meter race at the age of 15. When he was 16, Bolt broke a 200-meter world record of 20.13 seconds, and when he was 17, he ran a record of 19.93 seconds, making him the first adolescent to break the 20-second barrier in the event. After failing to go past the 200-meter heats at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and finishing last in the 2005 World Track and Field Championships final due to a hamstring injury.
