“If the club is for sale, Jim is certainly a potential purchaser,” Ratcliffe’s representative told the source. “We would be interested in discussing long-term ownership if something similar were attainable.”

Ratcliffe, who was born in Failsworth, Lancashire (Greater Manchester) on October 18, 1952, attended the University of Birmingham and grew up in East Yorkshire.
Ratcliffe began his career as a chemical engineer at the oil business Esso. Later, he obtained a position with the American private equity firm Advent International.
At age 40, he co-founded the company INSPEC before establishing Ineos in Hampshire and purchasing out his partners. In 2010, Ratcliffe relocated the Ineos headquarters from Hampshire to Rolle, Switzerland.
