North Korea’s Rungrado 1st of May Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located on Rungra Island in Pyongyang, covering an area of 20.7 hectares (51 acres). It debuted on May 1, 1989, with the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students as its first major event. Even with its stated capacity, it is the world’s largest stadium when compared to the 2014 re-estimated seat count. It is the second-largest stadium when compared to India’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Rungrado Stadium History
