Elvis Aron (later spelled Aaron) Presley was born in a two-room house in East Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935, about 35 minutes after his stillborn twin brother, Jesse Garon. The next day, Jesse was buried in the nearby Priceville Cemetery in a grave that was not marked. Gladys Love and Vernon Elvis Presley were very proud of their son Presley. His ancestors were from different parts of Western Europe, but his great-great-grandmother might have been Cherokee American.
His family was religious, and the music in the church was where he first got ideas. In 1941, Presley went to East Tupelo Consolidated, which was a public school. In 1946, Presley started sixth grade at a new school. He took his guitar to school and played and sang with it during lunch. Mississippi Slim taught him how to play guitar, and he put him on a radio show.
In 1948, Elvis Presley’s family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and he started high school at L.C. Humes. He and a group of boys he hung out with often played the guitar. In 1953, Presley started working as a truck driver, and he tried out for many jobs but was turned down. At Sun Records, Presley made a record with two sides so he could give it to his mother. The next year, he did the same thing. In July of 1954, he was able to record two of his songs, which became popular right away. This led to him giving live shows at a number of places. His unique style drove the audience crazy.
In 1955, Sun Records put out a lot of his songs, which became known as “rockabilly.” He became known as The Memphis Flash and The Hillbilly Cat because of this. Elvis and his mother were very close, and his father was always there for him. After dating for seven and a half years, Elvis and Priscilla Beaulieu got married on May 1, 1967. The wedding was short and took place in their room at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Lisa Marie was their only child, and she was born on February 1, 1968. Elvis didn’t drink alcohol or do drugs.
Due to both of them having affairs outside of their marriage, Elvis and Priscilla Presley split up on February 23, 1972, and filed for divorce on August 18. It was a blow that Elvis never got back from. The divorce was finalized on October 9, 1973.
