Early Years

Trevor Noah was born on February 20, 1984 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The fact that his father Robert was of Swiss ancestry and his mother Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah was of Xhosa ancestry made life difficult for the Noah family during the apartheid era in South Africa, which had criminalised interracial marriage by the time Trevor was born, and his mother faced jail time and fines throughout his childhood (he wrote about his experiences growing up under apartheid in South Africa in his 2016 book “Born a Crime”).

Trevor Noah began his career in the entertainment industry as a teenager. In 2002, at the age of 18, he had a walk-on role in an episode of the popular South African soap opera “Isidingo.” Simultaneously, he began hosting his own youth-oriented radio programme called “From 2004 to 2006, he hosted an educational television series titled “Run The Adventure.”

Eventually, he received his own television show dubbed “Tonight with Trevor Noah.”

Trevor Noah founded The Trevor Noah Foundation n his hometown of Johannesburg in 2018.

According to the official website of the foundation, its primary objective is to empower South African youth with “the resources, skills, and pathways to opportunity required to improve their lives and catalyse change in their communities.”

Personal Life

English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, Tsonga, Afrikaans, and German are among the eight languages Trevor Noah is fluent in. He is likely the only big American talk show presenter who can speak all eight.

His mother was shot in the head by her ex-husband Ngisaveni Abel Shingange, who, according to Noah, threatened him over the phone when he confronted him about the crime. Shingange was found guilty of attempted murder in 2011 for shooting Noah’s mother, who fortunately survived.

He stated that he hoped the incident would bring attention to the subject of domestic violence in South Africa and the law enforcement reaction (or lack thereof) to it: “My mother repeatedly contacted the police for assistance with domestic violence, but nothing was ever done.

This is common practise in South Africa. Dockets were lost and cases were never heard in court.”

Real Estate

Trevor Noah made headlines in January 2019 for purchasing a mansion in the Los Angeles district of Bel-Air. Noah reportedly paid $20 million for the property, which has two stories, 10,044 square feet, five bedrooms, and eight bathrooms.

The mansion features a spacious 2,200-square-foot master bedroom suite, an infinity-edge swimming pool, a private home cinema, and a 500-gallon saltwater tank.

There is a “ultra-exclusive VIP suite” with a private entrance for any extra-special guests who might come to meet Noah in Bel-Air.

In September 2020, just quite two years after purchasing the property for $20.5 million, Trevor sold it for $21.5 million. In 2017, he spent $10,1 million for a duplex in Manhattan, which he still owns and uses as his primary house during tapings of The Daily Show.

In January of 2021, Trevor purchased a Bel-Air mansion for $27.5 million. Ten months later, in October 2021, he listed this mansion for sale for $30 million. This is a video tour of this residence:
