The character of Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, is scheduled to make his return in an upcoming episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. After making a surprise appearance as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character will make his second appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of a series on Disney+.
Even though Daredevil’s role is still being kept a secret, the cast and crew of the show have been talking about his return in a number of interesting ways. These tidbits include:
Tatiana Maslany, who plays the lead role in She-Hulk, has previously dropped hints about the “amazing” return of Cox’s Marvel character in the series. She also mentioned that fans will be “really happy” about his return. Jessica Gao, the head writer, and producer of She-Hulk, recently disclosed that the “lighter side” of Daredevil will be investigated in the upcoming series.
Now, additional information regarding Marvel’s role in resurrecting Daredevil for She-Hulk has become available to the public.
The Demand That Marvel Studios Has for Daredevil’s Return Has Been Revealed
The woman who created She-Hulk, Jessica Gao, recently sat down with Lifehacker to discuss Daredevil’s upcoming appearance in the series that airs on Disney+.
Gao disclosed that the executives at Marvel Studios did not have any particular guidelines regarding the use of the character in She-Hulk, and he admitted that it was “shocking” that “they kept not saying no” to them about Daredevil’s role in the film:
In most cases, rather than providing us with guidelines, they give us the opportunity to suggest what it is that we would like to do. When they initially informed us that [Daredevil] was a possibility, neither one of us could believe it. The fact that they kept not saying no was shocking to us as we were formulating the plot of the story and deciding what we wanted the character to do.
Nevertheless, Gao divulged the information that Marvel insisted they maintain control over Daredevil’s costume. It was revealed by the show’s head writer and executive producer that the production company “knew exactly what they wanted the suit to look like:”
“The suit was the one aspect of the situation that I did not have control over. They had a clear idea in their heads of how they wanted the suit to look.
The new look of Daredevil was shown for the first time in the show’s second trailer, which featured an updated yellow and red suit:
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well represented in She-Hulk. Daredevil won’t be the only one making an appearance in the series; Wong and Abomination will also make cameos.
During the course of the interview, Gao stated that viewers will have the opportunity to learn about a “different side” of these well-known characters. He explained that this would give them the opportunity to “play around in She-tone:” Hulk’s
“Because we have a very specific tone, we’re able to pull these characters like Daredevil, like Abomination, like Wong who normally you’ve seen in very dramatic, very heavy, very serious projects, and bringing them into our world and letting them kind of play around in She-tone, Hulk’s so that it’s not completely changing the character, but you do get to see a different side of them,” the creators of She-Hulk have stated.
Gao continued by dropping hints that fans will get to see these characters dealing with “everyday stuff:” when they aren’t trying to save the world. Specifically, Gao said that fans will get to see these characters:
You get to see a lighter side of them, and part of that is because the universe isn’t in danger; it’s just a regular day for them; it’s just a regular day for them. “You get to see a lighter side of them.
You get a glimpse of these characters in a more relaxed state, when they are not frantically trying to save the entire human race but rather focusing on more mundane concerns. It’s almost like they get to take a comedy vacation in our show, and then they can go back to doing their serious stuff again.” “It’s kind of like they get to take a comedy vacation in our show.”
Will She-Hulk Finally Address if Daredevil on Netflix Is Considered Canon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Marvel Studios’ decision to make it clear to the She-Hulk team that they have the final say over the design of the Daredevil suit worn by Charlie Cox in the Netflix series suggests they had a plan in place to address questions about the show’s canonicity. Fans on their way to see She-Hulk have been debating and speculating about this pervasive misunderstanding in the lead-up to the premiere.
In making this request, Marvel may be hinting at whether or not they intend to address the canonicity of Daredevil on Netflix. Whether this will be addressed in She-Hulk or Daredevil: Born Again is still up in the air. Once again, this request represents a significant step toward clearing up the muddle.
Another positive development is that Marvel allowed the She-Hulk team to freely incorporate elements from the Daredevil comic. Phases 5 and 6 have an abundance of content, so it’s encouraging to see the studio possibly planning to continue this practice in future projects.

Meanwhile, fans can take heart from Jessica Gao’s encouraging comment that the “lighter side” of not only Daredevil but also the other guest stars will be fully showcased. This Disney+ series offers a rare opportunity that no other project has, and if She-Hulk is renewed for a second season, it will give other MCU characters a chance to show off their comedic side as well.
