Encanto has without a doubt become a huge success. The most recent Disney animated film has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% and has earned over $200 million at the box office. The big question now is: Could there be an Encanto 2? Kids (and adults) spend their free time singing the movie’s hit songs, such “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure.”
Encanto doesn’t immediately suggest a sequel, but neither does Frozen, which we revisited in 2019’s blockbuster Frozen II. Why not Mirabel, Bruno, Luisa, and the rest of the gang if a prequel was good enough for Anna and Elsa?
The animated film has amassed revenue at the box office of nearly $230 million since its November 2021 debut. You may have heard that Encanto, which is currently streaming on Disney+, has actually become the movie that everyone is talking about.
The theme song from the film, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” has smashed records in the US and the UK, while the other singles from the excellent soundtrack have all reached the top 10 internationally. Since the release of Frozen, there hasn’t been a Disney mania like this one.
First of all, it has only been a few months after Encanto’s premiere, so it will be some time before we see the Madrigal family again. However, the likelihood of a sequel is good given the popularity of the original film. The song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing “Let It Go” to become the next highest-charting Disney song in 26 years, breaking a record previously held by Frozen, according to Upcoming Season.
It appears that a sequel to Encanto will be launched soon because it is becoming as successful as prior bestsellers like Frozen. But it’s important to remember that it took six years for Frozen II to be released. Some well-known animated movies, like The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, have even lengthier delays between sequels in the meantime.
Despite there being no announcements, Jared Bush, the writer and director of the movie, has already expressed a desire to expand the Encanto universe.
Will Encanto 2 be released?
According to the digitalspy, since Disney hasn’t confirmed Encanto 2, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there isn’t a release date yet.
Before Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed the first movie in June 2020, it had been in the works for a few years. It came out in theatres in November 2021, but a sequel won’t come out for a few years (if it happens).
Six years passed between Frozen and Frozen II, so it could be a while before Encanto 2 comes out. We hope it won’t take that long, but until we know for sure, we can’t say when it will be out.
