After determining that a lion is likely to blame for the discovery, Martin returns hastily to report it. Nate stumbles across a Tsonga man who is injured while he is driving, but he is unable to assist him in any manner. While Martin was chasing the lion, he came under attack. After that, it sneaks up on Nate when he is hiding in the car. They are left helpless as Meredith makes an attempt to run but instead smacks a tree in the process.

Only Martin is still alive inside the vehicle when the lion strikes and kills the majority of the poachers. He makes the ultimate sacrifice by setting off an explosion caused by the seeping gasoline, which causes the lion to suffer terrible burns. In return for his assistance, Nate is expected to provide transportation for the party to a nearby village.

When Nate comes to in a hospital, the first thing he does is tell his daughters that he loves them. When the three of them return to the preserve as a family in the future, they make sure to take a picture of themselves standing next to the tree that was Nate’s late wife’s favorite.
