Mystikal Rapper is a New Orleans-based American hip-hop rapper with a net worth of $14.5 million as of 2022. He is best known for releasing six albums, all of which garnered him massive commercial success as well as critical acclaim.
Furthermore, the Recording Industry Association certified these albums as gold. The rapper began his career as a combat engineer in the United States Army in the 1990s. Later, he decided to pursue a music career and released his debut studio album, Mind of Mystikal.
Mystikal, a New Orleans rapper, once had the entire hip-hop industry singing his praises during his breakout period in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He continued to appear as an actor in many television shows after establishing himself in the music industry.
Despite this, Mystikal was involved in legal issues as a child, including a jail sentence for sexual battery, making him one of the most controversial artists in the hip-hop scene. But, just as he appeared to be on his way to becoming one of the genre’s biggest stars, a series of criminal charges would devastate his career.
Mystikal faced new charges in 2017 after entering prison for the first time in 2003 and serving every day of a six-year sentence.
This former hitmaker was speaking the right things about starting over and accepting his past mistakes after narrowly escaping those charges, but now, five years later, it’s happening once again.
Mystikal was detained in Louisiana in August of 2022 and was later charged with false imprisonment.
 Mystikal Early Life
Michael Lawrence Tyler was born on September 22, 1970, in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother, Marie Tyler, raised him in a strict household after his father died when he was only seven years old.
He grew up with two orphans, Maurice and Michelle. He graduated from Walter S Cohen High School, where he occasionally harbors dreams of becoming a famous rapper while performing as Mystikal, a break dancer.
Rather than attempting to break into the music industry after finishing school, Mystikal joined the US Army and served as a combat engineer in Iraq during Desert Storm.
Mystikal returned to New Orleans after four years in the Army to work as an undercover security guard at Woolworths in the Carleton Shopping Center. During that time, he was also pursuing his musical ambitions on the side.
But, before anything else, he had to deal with a heartbreaking tragedy when he discovered the body of his sister Michelle, who had died in her bedroom. Her boyfriend was charged with murder but acquitted due to a lack of evidence following claims that officers beat him into a confession.
That same year, Mystikal was noticed by Leroy “Precise” Edwards, a producer for a local rap label called Big Boy Record, during a one-song performance at the Treme Center where he opened up for Run-DMC and Doug E. Fresh.
 Mystikal Music Career
Soon after becoming a member of that roster, Mystikal went into the studio to record his first single, which became an instant hit. Mystikal recorded a 72nd spoken word tribute called Dedicated to Michelle Tyler, which would serve as the album’s closing track.
Because of his popular single, Y’all Ain’t Ready Yet, this project became an original hit. Jive Records purchased his contract from Big Boy Records and re-released Mind of Mystikal, an alternate version of the album, in 1995.
Two years later, Mystikal joined Master P’s No Limit label, where his album Unpredictable sold over 2 million copies. Before returning to the Jive for his final two albums in 2000 and 2001, he released Ghetto Fabulous, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Charts.
Let’s Get Ready, for example, featured perhaps his most popular single of all time, “Shake Ya Ass,” which earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 2001 while peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mystikal was also nominated for Best Male Rap Performance.
Assault and Legal Issues
Mystikal fell back down the hip hop Mountain shortly after reaching the summit. Mystikal’s life began to unravel in 2003.
That was the year he was charged with sexual battery and extortion after he and two of his bodyguards forced his hairstylist to perform sexual favors.
They then claimed that this woman had stolen checks totaling $80,000 from Mystikal. Mystikal attempted to pass off all of this as consensual, but since everything had been caught on tape, he was forced to admit guilt to avoid the possible life sentence that such charges carry in the state of Louisiana.
Mystikal was subsequently given a 6-year prison sentence and checked into the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Saint Gabriel. Later, he was moved to North Louisiana’s David Wade Correctional Center, which was much farther away from his family and friends.
He once more moved up the preferred job hierarchy in the prison. eventually landing the lucrative job of the gross cutter, which meant he had some time off in the winter.
Every two years, Mystikal was eligible for parole, but he was never granted it. This was likely because of the numerous tax fraud evasions he committed at the same time, which complicated matters. In January 2010, after serving the full six years, he was freed.
He ended up serving an additional 81 days in prison for violating his parole just two years later. This came after the mother of his two children filed a misdemeanor battery and domestic abuse charge against him.
This time, he would go home after spending three months in prison. But after being gone for so long, his musical career was over.
Although he occasionally appeared as a featured artist on Mark Johnson and Trinidad James songs, hip hop had largely ignored him. In 2017, some new allegations surfaced; this time, Mystikal was charged with kidnapping and sexual assault stemming from an alleged incident that happened in 2016 at a Louisiana casino.
Authorities would observe that the assault victim was unable to recall some of the night. but asserted that Mystikal and others had attacked him.

Mystikal refuted these allegations, claiming that he wasn’t present when the incident occurred. After 8 months, the results of the forensic tests showed that he had an intimate encounter with the victim.
Additionally, cocaine and another substance that the victim claimed she had never knowingly consumed were discovered in her system by toxicology tests. At this point, a warrant for Mystikal’s arrest was issued along with those of his friend Holman, another person who later pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, and Mystikal himself.
Meanwhile, in June of 2019, Holman pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of simple kidnapping and was sentenced to time served.
Mystikal eventually admitted to the sexual encounter, but described it as consensual, and claimed that the victim was only claiming assault because she didn’t want to admit it to her boyfriend.
After new evidence was presented to a grand jury, prosecutors dropped the charges against Mystikal in December 2020. Mystikal had been released on a $3 million bond before the charges were dropped and had maintained his innocence throughout.
However, after spending several months in jail before his bail hearing, he was once again faced with the prospect of having very little demand for his musical services.
Mystikal spoke with the Associative Press in April 2021 and stated that he was in the process of rebuilding his life. Mystikal would be hit with new charges in August of 2022. He was accused of sexual assault for the third time.

However, the charges this time are more complex, including first-degree sexual assault, robbery, domestic abuse battery, strangulation, false imprisonment, and simple criminal damage to the estate.
The incident allegedly occurred just before midnight on July 30th in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, according to the release.
Authorities were called to a local hospital after a sexual assault was reported. The police identified Mystikal as a suspect after interviewing the unidentified victim. He was arrested shortly after, and the investigation is still ongoing.
As of now, the rapper is scheduled to perform on September 3rd at Ohio’s Jacobs Pavillion at Nautica in Cleveland. This is yet another example of Mystical’s heinous behavior harming others while also impeding his career sabotage at the highest level.
