Don Lee is back in “The Roundup: No Way Out,” a Korean action movie sequel. The Roundup, South Korea’s most popular movie of 2022, is already getting a sequel. The Roundup: No Way Out, the third movie in the series, started filming late last week. It is directed by Lee Sang-yong and stars Ma Dong-seok (aka Don Lee). The new project continues the gritty action adventures of Lee’s beefed-up detective Ma Seok-do after he joined the Regional Investigation Unit to face a new crime plot. Lee Joon-hyuk, the Korean star of “Along with the Gods,” is joining the franchise to play the new movie’s villain, Lee Jun-hyuk. Japanese actor Aoki Munetaka will co-star as a yakuza named Riki.
The first movie in the Roundup series was The Outlaws, which came out in 2017. In that movie, Lee played the tough detective Ma Suk-Do, who was trying to keep control of Seoul’s Chinatown district while rival gangs were fighting fiercely. Both critics and fans of the genre liked the movie, and it made $53 million.
Lee Sang-Yong directed the sequel, The Roundup, which moved the action to Vietnam. The Roundup: No Way Out is made by Big Punch Pictures, Hong Film, and B.A. Entertainment, just like its predecessor. In Korea, ABO Entertainment is in charge of distributing the movie.
