Shadow Detective Ending Explanation
The main themes of Shadow Detective Season 1 are regret and remorse, which are mostly shown through Taek-character. rok’s (Lee Sung-min). The veteran detective who is about to retire carries the scars of some of his wrongdoings from his time as a police officer until the end. He blames himself for almost everything bad that happens around him because he thinks that his fears make him unfit for the job.
He has to deal with the death of his younger colleague Hyun-Seok, the early kidnapping of his daughter, and the mental scars that experience has given her. He also has to deal with not being able to solve a few cases in the past, which led to the wrong person being blamed for the same crime and a lot more. On his path of guilt, he doesn’t have much comfort or support, but Sung-a (Kyung Soo-jin), Kyung-chan (Lee Hak-Joo), and the new guy, Kook Jin-Han (Jin Goo), offer him some, whether he accepts it or not.
The way he feels about Jin-Han is especially complicated. In the last two episodes, we find out some surprising things about how they interact with each other and a little bit about their past. We hope that the questions below will answer most, if not all, of your questions.
Who is Chairman Jang?
At his old job, Jin-Han was just as eager to show how the top people were involved in corruption, but he was looking into Chairman Jang. He told the public that he would bring his wrongdoings to light, so he worked with an insider, an accountant who was working for Jang at the time.
Chairman Jang, however, has his informant killed and makes it look like he did it himself. Jin-Han is then taken in by the Chairman, who blames him for this loss and uses his sick son as bait to get him involved in his plan. Jang promises him money to help pay for his son’s medical care. He had a strong hold on Jin-Han because he threatened his family. Jin-Han had no choice but to work for him.
Jang gives him one last job to do, which is to protect the Geumo police squad. He goes so far as to say that this case is a “matter of life and death” and offers to be made a commissioner in exchange. And this is why Jin-Han had to use blackmail to get to Chief Gwang-Su through Taek-rok.
Who is the ‘Friend’?
Whether you think it was bad or good, Jin-Han was the “Friend.” But since he worked for Chairman Jang to get rid of the corrupt ties between the Geumo Police Force and the Development Committee, it’s likely that someone else will take this identity the next time. In the first season, Jin-Han mostly used Taek-rok as a bargaining chip to get what he wanted, which was to get rid of Chief Gwang-Su.
Does Taek-rok Confront Jin-Han?
Jin-case Han’s is solved by Taek-rok using old case files. Getting Hyun-burner Seok’s phone at the tavern is another piece of the puzzle that helps him figure out what’s going on. Once he opens it, he finds video evidence that Jin-Han killed Hyun-Seok and uses that to get Jin-Han to come out. Meanwhile, Jin-Han arrests Sung-a for not telling him where Taek-rok was after a “witness” says that Taek-rok killed Hyun-Seok.
In the end, both detectives decide to meet up and put an end to the case for good. Jin-Han also angers Chairman Jang by saying that he will deal with Taek-rok on his own and put an end to the whole thing. When they finally meet, Taek-rok understands Jin-situation Han’s and tells him that he can still change things and go back to his family.
Jin-Han is overcome by strong feelings and admits that being a detective was one of the “loneliest” jobs he’s ever had. He also says that he grew to like spending time with the older detective. Even though they come to the scene with guns, Taek-rok gives in and gives Jin-Han the burner phone, letting him off the hook. He does this because he realizes how torn Jin-Han may have been when he took this job to protect his family.
Does Anyone Die at the End of Season 1?
During the final fight between Jin-Han and Taek-rok, Jin-Han is shot from a distance, but it’s too soon to tell if he’s dead or not. Taek-rok is having trouble calling Jin-emergency Han’s contact, but the young detective says he wants to be Jin-friend Han’s in the next life.
As Taek-rok tries to call the number, he gets a call from someone he doesn’t know, which sets the mystery back in motion. We can only hope that Taek-rok gets his younger friend to the hospital in time, but since he was shot so badly, his future looks bad right now.
Does Chief Gwang-Su Admit to His Crimes?
Chief Gwang-Su turned himself in when he ran into Taek-rok at their old meeting spot, where they used to hang out with Hyun-Seok and Detective Bae. After hearing Taek-rok say that the other two people in their inner circle looked up to them and that in a way, they were to blame for both of their deaths, the Chief realizes the effects of what he did.
At the Geumo Police Station, he admits to all of the corruption charges against him. He also gives the press Mr. Cheon’s ledger, which shows all the big names involved in the case.
