There are some major surprises in store for the Dutton family in the upcoming weeks as the countdown to Season 5 of Yellowstone begins to shift from months to weeks. As the Yellowstone universe expands with multiple spin-offs, the Duttons on the flagship series are ascending to the governor’s office, where the drama will only intensify.
Season 5 of Yellowstone will pick up after the bloody Season 4 finale; Beth (Kelly Reilly), who we all know is the real brains behind every operation at the Yellowstone-Dutton Ranch, manipulated her adopted brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) into killing his biological father, Garrett (Will Patton). After it was revealed in Season 3 that Garrett had ordered the attempted assassinations of John (Kevin Costner), Beth, and Kayce (Luke Grimes), Beth figured he deserved it. She also made sure to keep the evidence, so now she has Jamie under her thumb and out of the race for governor, allowing their father to be the only Dutton to run for office. She also recently wed Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and witnessed her father’s new, perplexing vegan special friend (Piper Perabo) go to jail, so Beth’s world is essentially the only one that exists.
Beth’s quest for world/Montana dominance is complicated by the fact that Kayce has been on a tremendous spiritual journey that has provided him with a vision of two paths. He told Monica (Kelsey Asbille) that at least one of these paths would result in “the end of us.” Whatever this means, it cannot be positive, and the long wait for Season 5 becomes even more difficult.

Yellowstone will premiere its fifth season on Paramount Network on Sunday, November 13 with a two-hour event, with subsequent episodes airing weekly. The fifth season will consist of 14 episodes, split into two groups of seven episodes. It is currently unclear how long the mid-season break will last, despite the fact that this is the biggest season to date.

John “has no friends in the building,” and it appears that he will go to war with Jacki Weaver’s character Caroline Warner. It appears that Jamie is back in the fold and serving as his father’s political advisor, but it does not appear that all is well between them. In the meantime, Beth is assuming the role of chief of staff, and if that means fighting dirty with the family’s numerous adversaries, so be it.
