“Bodies,” the gripping medical drama that takes a raw and unflinching look at the world of healthcare, is on the minds of fans as they eagerly anticipate the release of its second season.
In this article, we’ll explore what is known about the upcoming season of this intense and critically acclaimed series and whether there will be a second season or a spin-off. Here’s what we know!
Will There Be a Bodies Season 2?
According to writer Paul Tomalin, there are no plans for a second season of Bodies.
Hello! said Tomalin. He’d written the thriller series with only one season in mind at first. “We went to Netflix like, ‘This is one series, this is a one and done, we wanna close this off,’ because I think when you have such an amazing concept up front, you [expletive] your audience off if you don’t solve it.”
While season 2 isn’t in the works, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of expanding the universe in some way. “Having said that, when you look at the back end, there is definitely a dot dot dot.” However, the show’s premise comes to an end.”
Some stories are far more powerful when they are self-contained (many of the best TV programs were short-lived), and complicating Bodies’ brief but outstanding run with an extra that isn’t required by the plot itself could be a mistake.
With the program having a puzzling tale with answers revealed to the audience at the end, it would be tough to develop another in its world without the same fundamental premise to begin things off.
We’re sure there are some creatives out there with other ideas for where to take the show, and Tomalin clearly hinted that there were more mysteries to be discovered in the realm of Bodies. After all, the first season finished with Maplewood driving a taxi in 2023 (despite being stranded in Victorian times the last time we saw her), and there was a building illuminated up with Mannix’s ‘KYAL’ (Know you are Loved) message for some unknown reason.
What is Netflix’s Bodies About?
According to the official synopsis, “Bodies is a police procedural with a twist, based on Si Spencer’s mind-bending graphic novel.” When the identical body is discovered on Longharvest Lane in London’s East End in 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053, one detective from each time period must investigate.
“As the detectives make connections across the decades, they soon discover that their investigations are intertwined, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central.” Did he have any involvement in the murder? Is it possible that something substantially more evil is at work?
“To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.”
Who Could Appear in the Second Season of Bodies?
We may expect almost the whole major cast to return for a hypothetical second season, including:
- Amaka Okafor as Shahara Hasan
- Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Charles Whiteman
- Kyle Soller as Alfred Hillinghead
- Shira Haas as Iris Maplewood
- Tom Mothersdale as Gabriel Defoe
What to Expect from Bodies Season 2?
The ending of Bodies (which we discussed here, thank us later!) has Shahara fly back in time to prevent Elias from detonating the bomb, altering the future and implying Elias is no longer alive.
However, in the final image, we see Shahara speaking with a cab driver who turns out to be Iris Maplewood, and the abbreviation ‘KYAL’ – which stands for ‘Know You Are Loved’ – appears in the background of the London city skyline.

So, in season two, Iris, Shahara, and the rest of the detectives may have to work together once more to prevent KYAL from existing at all. It’s really exciting!
Conclusion
“Bodies” has earned a place in the hearts of viewers for its unapologetic approach to the medical drama genre. While the future of season 2 seems to be in the dark, the enduring impact of the series and the creator’s expressed interest in revisiting it provide hope for its return. As fans eagerly await the next chapter in this gritty and intense medical drama, they can anticipate more emotionally charged and thought-provoking stories that tackle the complexities of healthcare and the people who provide it.
