Will There Be a Shadow and Bone Season 3?

According to Variety, Netflix canceled Shadow and Bone (as well as Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzaar, and Captain Fall) because the streaming service is rethinking its content strategy in light of the impact of the 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes on the film industry and Netflix’s original television series.

To put it another way, Shadow and Bone season 3 will not air on Netflix because the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the studios refused to provide writers and actors a reasonable wage for several months.

The extended strike (the WGA strike lasted 148 days, while the SAG-AFTRA strike lasted 118 days) was not the sole reason Netflix canceled Shadow and Bone. According to Variety, the fantasy television show’s ratings did not cover the costs of production.

Following the end of the strikes, Netflix examined how the work stoppages affected income and whether the performance of a series was sufficient reason to renew it for another season.

Unfortunately for Shadow and Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzaar, and Captain Fall, the streaming service determined that their viewership numbers did not justify their production costs.

What Could be the Plot of Shadow and Bone Season 3?

Season 2 of Shadow and Bone closely follows the plot of the second novel in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, Siege and Storm, and adds parts of the third, Ruin and Rising. It also includes plotlines from the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo.

Bardugo has not yet written the third book in the Six of Crows series, but she has hinted that it may be a future effort. “A third Six of Crows is a big’someday,'” she told Collider. I’ve had an idea for the story’s plot for a long time.
