‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Tv Show Based on the Book | Where Can I Watch the Summer I Turned Pretty Movie?

Jeremy Caroll

The adaptation of Jenny Han’s best-selling novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, is now available on Amazon Prime. And, indeed, we have already completed the entire season.

The show is based on Jenny Han’s first book in a trilogy, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and follows Belly, an endearingly awkward teenager who is ready to shake off the ‘little sister’ ideas and finally become the romantic heroine in her own life.

Han signed an overall film and television deal with Amazon in April, according to Variety, with the author saying, “Adapting my novel, ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ into a television series at Prime Video has been an incredible experience, and I’m so thrilled to now expand my relationship with them.”

Is this a sign that we may expect more from Han in the future? We might be in luck. Meanwhile, here’s all we know about her new album, The Summer I Turned Pretty.

About The Summer I Turned Pretty

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' TV Show Based on the Book

As explained previously, The Summer I Turned Pretty will be based on Jenny Han‘s book of the same name. It’s the first in a trilogy that includes It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer. The book’s synopsis (from Jenny Han’s official website) reads.

“Belly lives her life in summers. Between June and August, everything good and magical happens. Winters are merely a time to count down the weeks until the next summer, a time away from the beach house, Susannah, and, most importantly, Jeremiah and Conrad.

“They are the males Belly has known since her first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between.” But one summer, one awful and magnificent summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.”

That’s correct, we’ve got a love triangle on our hands.

The Cast of  The Summer I Turned Pretty

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' TV Show Based on the Book

Lola Tung, a newcomer, has been cast as The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s lead character Belly Conklin, who is coming into her own after overcoming her pre-teen awkwardness (I’m sure we’ve all been there!).

Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, who play the Fisher brothers Conrad and Jeremiah, round out the love triangle. Conrad is Belly’s long-lost brother, and this summer she finally captures his eye. Jeremiah’s feelings for her begin to blossom, startling both of them.

Sean Kaufman plays Belly’s older brother, Steven, and Jackie Chung plays Laurel, Belly and Steven’s mother. Susannah Fisher, Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother, is played by Rachel Blanchard. Minnie Mills, Summer Madison, David Iacono, Rain Spencer, and Tom Everett Scott round out the cast.

Release Date

Jenny Han has inked an overall contract with Amazon, and the series will be accessible exclusively on Amazon Prime Video beginning June 17, 2022. Unlike the film franchise All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, which consists of three films, The Summer I Turned Pretty will be televised as a series, which we can only assume will be released all at once rather than regularly.

Is Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty on the way?

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' TV Show Based on the Book

It definitely will. The sitcom was renewed for a second season before the first season even aired on Amazon Prime.

“When I decided to adapt ‘Summer’ for television, I knew we’d need more than one season to honor the tale we’re telling,” said Jenny Han, author of the novel on which the show is based, in a statement.

“Receiving a second season pickup before the start of Season One is beyond my wildest aspirations. I am so thankful to Amazon Studios for this wonderful vote of confidence in our show, and I can’t wait to reassemble our incredible crew to tell the next chapter in our tale.”
