When will The Old Guard 2 be released? Since The Old Guard surprised Netflix subscribers in July 2020, it’s been a while. The action film provided viewers with what they were lacking, and it was a surprising smash. However, like an immortal warrior, Netflix did not linger to confirm that a sequel was in the works.
The first film follows Andromache of Scythia, also known as Andy, an eternal warrior who leads a squad of immortal troops on missions around the world for the welfare of humanity. They face pharma-bro Steven Merrick (Harry Melling), who wants to see if their bodies can be harvested for properties that he can sell to the rest of the world. Fortunately, the team is assisted by Nile Freeman (KiKi Layne), a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan who learns her new life when one of her missions goes wrong.
The story is from the Image Comics series, written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández. Fans of comic books will recognize Rucka’s name from his work on titles such as Wonder Woman, Gotham Central, Infinite Crisis, Wolverine, and The Punisher. With such a rich history, it’s no surprise that fans are eager to learn when The Old Guard 2 will be released. But what can we expect from a follow-up?.
The Plot of The Old Guard 2
So, what can we expect to see in the sequel when it finally hits theatres? In the first film, Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team wrestle with their role in the world, debating whether whatever they do genuinely benefits humanity – or if their missions are fundamentally meaningless.
When James Copely (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discloses that many of the people they’ve spared have either gone on to do bigger things or their descendants have become major figures in history, they realize the significance of their efforts.
This boosts the team’s faith in their eternal purpose, especially now that they’ve shown the Nile ropes. But who or what will they be up against?
The 2020 film concludes with the shocking revelation that fellow immortal Quynh (Ngô Thanh Vân) is still alive and well, despite Andy witnessing her being dumped to the bottom of the ocean in an iron maiden hundreds of years ago. It’s a terrible fate because she was practically doomed to drown indefinitely. Yikes. In the final scene, Quynh approaches Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), who has been exiled for 100 years for betraying the squad.
So, the sequel will most likely investigate what Quynh and Booker have in store for Andy, as well as whether or not they will break out on their own. It wasn’t entirely Andy’s responsibility that Quynh was sentenced to death as a witch, but the latter is probably disappointed that Andy didn’t save her.

We want the gang back, and we’re going to get it. The cast roster for the upcoming sequel that we expect to see is as follows.

The Old Guard 2 Release Date
The sequel’s renewal has been confirmed, but the release date has yet to be announced. Prior to the sequel’s announcement, Theron indicated in June 2021 that the script was finished and that filming would begin in early 2022. So, while the film is unlikely to be released until 2022, a sequel is expected in 2023.
