The Long Call Season 2 Release Date, and Will Long Call Return in October 2022?

Jeremy Caroll

Long Call’s last episode aired on ITV on November 28th, settling viewers’ doubts about who killed Simon Walden. This series is based on a book of the same name written by bestselling crime fiction author Anna Cleeve.

The series begins with Mathew Venn and his husband Jonathan returning to the town from which he was exiled to attend his late father’s burial.

Mathew was rejected by the religious community because he was gay, which was considered a sin. When the body of one of the town’s residents is discovered on the shore, Mathew takes on the case to find the killer responsible for Simons’ death.

The success of The Long Call was influenced by the locale of the story’s filming (North Devon). Will there be a second season despite its success on ITV?

Will the Long Call Return for a Second Season?

ITV has not stated whether or not the investigator from The Long Call will return to our screens. But, given the popularity of the show, we’d be surprised if he didn’t return.

A second season of the show would be based on the same-titled book. The Matthew Venn series continues with a new novel. It could be a fantastic idea for Season 2. This year, Ann Cleeves published a new book. It’s all about Venn. He is called in to investigate another murder in a remote area in North Devon.

The Long Call Season 2 Release Date

ITV is yet to confirm whether the crime series will return for a second season. With 6.4/10 ratings on IMDB and excellent fan response, Mathew Venn is likely to return to our screens to solve a new murder case that builds on the Long Call 1 season finale.

The second season is expected to be based on the Long Callbook sequel “The Herons Cry,” which is also a Mathew Venn series.

When the second season is approved, the creators will have ready material to begin production. The Long Call will return in October 2022 if the same timeline is maintained.

The Long Call Season 2 Cast

If The Long Call is extended for a second season, the majority of the cast will return. Who should we expect to see in the second season?

Ben Aldridge is a virtual certainty to reprise his role as Mathew Venn (the detective). DS Jen Rafferty is played by Pearl Mackie, and DC Rosa Pritchard is played by Dylan Edwards.

Based on the conclusion of season one, the second season will focus on a completely different case as the homicide responsible for Walden’s death is determined. As a result, we should expect to see new faces.

With Dennis and Grace incarcerated, it is possible that Juliet Stevenson (Dorothy, Mathew’s mother) would return to command the Barum Brethren now that her husband has died.

The Long Call Season 2 Trailer

The series’ trailer has yet to be released. It will be released as Long Call 2 approaches its premiere. If you haven’t seen the trailer or season 1 of this epic drama series, you should.

For Ann Cleeves lovers, the Two Rivers (streaming on Britbox), Shetland (Netflix), and Vera Stanhope (Netflix) series will blow your mind.

The Long Call Season 2: What to Expect?

Mathew discovers that Anita Dobson (Grace) murdered Simon in response to threats from her violent husband, Martin Shaw (Dennis).

The second book after the long call, “The Herons Cry,” gives us an inkling of what to expect in the second season.

In the novel, Mathew travels to a village to solve the murder of one of Jonathan’s (His husband’s) colleagues, Dr. Nigel Yeo.

When a body similar to the Doctors’ is discovered, Mathew confirms his suspicions that their killings were staged. He must be cautious because this case gives him a sense of déjà vu.
