On June 27, Succession’s official accounts released photographs indicating that Season 4 production has begun in New York City. (If you’re one of the numerous fans who have run across the cast while they’ve been filming, please DM me on Twitter and tell me all about it.)

In addition, HBO released a brief synopsis for the season, which will consist of 10 episodes: “The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is finalized. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs a future in which their cultural and political weight is significantly diminished.”
Succession could not exist without the monstrous family of billionaires at its core. The whole Roy clan, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, and Nicholas Braun, is set to return for Season 4.
J. Smith-Cameron, Peter Friedman, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Scott Nichols, Zo Winters, and Jeannie Berlin have been named as returning players for the Roys. Based on the inclusion of Lukas Mattson in the limited details provided by HBO, it seems likely that Alexander Skarsgrd will return as well.
No official release date for Season 4 has been given. Given that filming has just begun, we anticipate that the launch of the new season will not occur until 2023.
Where to Watch
On HBO Max, the first three seasons of Succession are available to view.
Succession fans have been scouring the streets of New York with the same frenzied intensity as those who snapped photos of Ryan Gosling shooting Greta Gerwig’s Barbie earlier this summer, hoping to get a snapshot of a member of the Roy family appearing distressed while strolling. I find that to be wonderful. After the subdued explosion of the Season 3 finale, production on the fourth season of the HBO drama is already underway, and new episodes cannot arrive fast enough.
Season 3 concluded not only with Tom’s (Matthew Macfadyen) Godfather-like betrayal as he helped Logan (Brian Cox) cut the Roy children off for good, but also with Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin) uniting after Kendall’s confession of vehicular manslaughter and the blow of Logan’s deceit. But what does this signify for the future? Shiv is aware of Tom’s actions, but does Tom know Shiv is aware? Will Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgrd) truly inherit Waystar Royco’s legacy?
Will Connor (Alan Ruck) becomes president of the United States? After aligning himself with Tom in the series finale, the only thing that appears quite clear is that the family’s resident snake, played by Nicholas Braun’s Cousin Greg, has maneuvered himself into a respectable position.
While we sit around wondering and listening to “Honesty (featuring Kendall Roy)” on repeat, here is all we know about Season 4 of Succession.
