Sicario was one of the most influential action dramas of the 2010s, as was its sequel, but despite years of Sicario 3 rumors, the threequel has yet to be released – but it is in the works. Sicario, released in 2015, is about a task team attempting to take on a Mexican drug cartel led by CIA agent Matt Graver and the mysterious hitman Alejandro Gillick.
However, it is revealed at the end of the film that the task force’s true objective is to further control the cartel. The 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, finds Alejandro and Matt working again on another utterly illegal assignment, and while it isn’t as beloved as the original, it does a terrific job of creating the universe and setting up Sicario 3.
The original Sicario film was a major critical and commercial success. The film earned a solid $85 million on a $30 million budget (according to Box Office Mojo), enough to warrant a sequel. Sicario: Day of the Soldado was not as highly reviewed in 2018, in part because Villeneuve did not return to direct the sequel.
As a result, the film lacked the dazzling images that the original film had. However, Taylor Sheridan returned as the writer, and the sequel’s story is just as captivating as the original. While Sicario 3 was confirmed with Sheridan returning as screenwriter, the threequel has yet to be released.
When Will Sicario 3 Be Released?
There is no set release date for Sicario 3. The film is still in production, so we might see it in 2025. But don’t hold your breath because the film hasn’t yet begun production.
The Messenger communicated with producers Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk in September 2023 and learned that the film is still under development. “Oh yeah,” Iwanyk replied when asked if it was true. Lee added, referring to the 2023 Writers Strike, “When we can continue writing it.” It was trimmed down, but the concept is fantastic.”
It appears that they are certain that it will be one of their best films.
Who Will Be in the Cast of Sicario 3?
It appears that Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro will reprise their roles as Matt Graver and Alejandro Gillick in Sicario 3.
The rest of the probable actor roster for the future film, on the other hand, is a bit hazy. At the end of the last film, it appeared that Miguel Hernandez, played by Elijah Rodriguez, would have a sequel. As a result, he may appear in the sequel.
Here is a possible Sicario 3 cast list:
- Benicio del Toro as Alejandro Gillick
- Josh Brolin as Matt Graver
- Elijah Rodriguez as Miguel Hernandez
- Isabela Moner as Isabel Reyes
What Will Happen in Sicario 3?
The main description for Sicario 3 has yet to be disclosed, however, based on the events of the last film, it appears that the next part of the story will follow Miguel Hernandez’s apprenticeship.
At the end of Day of the Soldado, we saw Alejandro Gillick approach Miguel and suggest that he mentor the young gang member. In that situation, Sicario 3 will follow the two as they work their way up the cartel’s leadership structure.
