The ending ties together Monroe’s abandonment issues, knowing her father and mother didn’t want her, and how she and her lover, Cass, didn’t either. We can assume that looking into the white light indicates that she is dying as a result of substance abuse. The final scene of that father figure does not depict a grand reunion with her father, but rather how the issue hung over her life until her death.

Aside from that, I considered a theory. Norma Jean’s mental image of her father resembles a younger version of the studio head executive who assaulted her. This is the same studio that her mother refers to when she says he worked there. Monroe informs her mother that she has an audition before the assault and will look into the matter there. When she asks the same executive about her “daddy” at a premiere, he tries to calm her down when she asks if her father will be there. This raises the question:

Blonde (2022) by Andrew Dominick is a divisive experience. Many people expected a steamy romp. Many people laughed at the various situations our dear Norma Jean found herself in at the critics screening I attended. To be honest, I thought it was terrible. This is not a film about the star, but rather about what men do to women. The casting couch was the beginning of Hollywood’s sexualization. Blonde is best explained through the lens of various traumas and experiences she had as a child that led to her stardom.
Now, I’ve never read Joyce Carol Oates’ fantastic fictionalized account of Marlyn Monroe‘s life. As a result, encounters with famous people should not be interpreted as a biography. Dominick, on the other hand, has always remained true to the source material.
Norma’s relationship with her mother, Gladys (Julianne Nicholson), was tragic when she was a small child. The single mother was going through a rough patch due to depression. She frequently mentioned Norma’s father. How? By pointing to a picture above her child’s bed and never told her the man’s name, only that he was a powerful man in Hollywood and lived in the hills, which were currently on fire.

Gladys attempted to drive Norma Jean up there during the fire but was turned away, so she drowned her daughter in the bathtub. Later, Chaplin Jr. blackmails Dimaggio with obscene private photos of the two of them. Joe D then assaults her.

Marylin’s relationship with Arthur Miller (Adrien Brody) causes her to make changes, as she desires a family but appears distant. In a relationship where she is treated respectfully, Norma Jean may feel inadequate. Unfortunately, she miscarries, and her marriage falls apart as a result of the trauma of the event, which can cause anxiety, depression, and PTSD. This leads to her friendship with John F. Kennedy (Casper Phillipson), who uses her as a coping mechanism for his sexual pleasure.
Monroe is most likely suffering from co-occurring disorders at this point, which is a combination of mental health disorders and substance use disorders (SUDs). This is correct if she suffers from the symptoms described above and uses alcohol and pills. When Norma Jean opens it, it is empty. “There was never a tearful father, Cass,” the words are filled in for her. The final scenes show our Blonde dialing a phone number, but she appears to be about to pass out as she looks through the white skylight. The father figure is barely visible through the fog in the final shot.
