In May 2008, more than fifteen years ago, Marvel Studios‘ first feature-length film was released. Since then, the world’s obsession with the superhero genre has increased more than ever before and shows no signs of slowing down.
Since Robert Downey Jr.’s one-man show Iron Man and all subsequent sequels have been enormously successful in both domestic and foreign markets, every film and television studio, regardless of size, has made it a priority to try and acquire even the least well-known comic book character in order to adapt them for a different type of audience.
Even though some blatantly grabbed a piece of that enormous cash cow, this tried-and-true strategy has unquestionably been successful in the past for a variety of production companies.
With the beginning of the year just behind us, a new show that will soon be available on the streaming service Hulu aims to demonstrate that starting over with a fresh coming-of-age heroine still works.
There will be a new original series called Extraordinary that combines a lot of humor with a dash of science fiction and fantasy. The audience travels with a woman in her twenties who appears to still be waiting for some kind of superpower to manifest in an alternate universe where everyone has their own superpower by the time they turn eighteen.
Extraordinary Release Date
Many people are impatiently anticipating the London-based dramedy Extraordinary after watching the brief but captivating trailer, which has received well over three hundred thousand views on YouTube alone.
The entire first season of the already well-liked show will be released on January 25, 2023, so there won’t be much more of a wait. Think about how much patience Jen must have at this point if you still feel like that’s a long time to wait.
Extraordinary Plot: What to Expect?
On December 14, 2022, Hulu released the official trailer for Extraordinary, giving viewers a glimpse of the many exciting and amusing scenes that will be featured in the new show.
The trailer begins with a scene from a job interview in which the main character Jen is asked what her weaknesses are. She gives several different answers, including being egotistical, lazy, and many others. However, the interviewer is somewhat taken aback to learn that she lacks any superpowers.
The remainder of the trailer features several hilariously awkward scenes involving Jen. While there are no significant spoilers disclosed in the process, viewers can get a good idea of what to expect from this character-driven comedy drama.
The trailer as a whole keeps a distinct sense of humor, vibrancy, and lightheartedness that fans of superhero dramas would undoubtedly enjoy.
Hulu also released the show’s official synopsis along with the trailer, and it reads as follows:
”Meet Jen. She lives in a world where everyone has a superpower. Everyone except her. Which is just sodding great. Extraordinary is somewhere between a sitcom and an existential crisis: an eye-popping, shocking, hilarious, and bittersweet comedy about finding your way in the world, when all you’ll ever be is ‘ordinary’.”
Following the trailer and synopsis, viewers can expect a smart comedy series that delves into a variety of intriguing themes such as superpowers, existentialism, and many more. The show will reportedly have eight episodes.
The release schedule has not yet been announced, but all eight episodes are expected to be available for streaming on Hulu on January 25, 2023.
Who is the Cast Member of Extraordinary?
Emma Moran, the show’s creator, isn’t afraid to take a chance on newcomers to the acting world, which helps Extraordinary highlight emerging talent. The main character Jen is portrayed by actress Mairead Tyers, 24; the best friend Carrie is portrayed by poet Sofia Oxenham.
In addition to being well-known in the spoken verse community, Oxenham has also appeared in a recent Dracula adaptation on Netflix and the venerable British medical drama Doc Martin. In the upcoming animated movie Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which will be released in April 2024, Bilal Hasna, who plays Cassie’s boyfriend, will be lending his voice to an unspecified role.

The audience will have the opportunity to get to know the rest of Jen’s dysfunctional family, including her mother Mary, stepfather Ian, and half-sister Andy, in the other supporting roles. Siobhan McSweeney, Robbie Gee, and Safia Oakley-Green assist in bringing these characters to life on television because they are members of a group in society that has no trouble understanding their supernatural abilities.
These three actors each bring a wealth of experience to this original take on the superhero genre, with McSweeney having appeared in Derry Girls, Gee having previously been cast in BBC One’s Motherland, and Oakley-Green having appeared in Sherwood, another BBC drama.
