The Last of Us has made a profound influence on fans of television and video games. How long is the initial season and how many episodes are there? How many are remaining?
There are now few video games that are as popular as The Last of Us. Almost certainly, if you are a player, you have at least discussed gaming at some point. It has been that significant in the gaming world for some time.
This year, it also became significantly more relevant in another kind of entertainment: television. The series has been adapted for the big screen by HBO, and it launched on January 15 on both the HBO cable channel and the HBO Max streaming service to wonderful acclaim from fans and reviewers.
Clearly, there were fears that The Last of Us might join the list of unsuccessful video game adaptations, but that has not been the case during its phenomenal first season.
The series is undeniably many people’s new Sunday night passion, nevertheless.
How many episodes are there in The Last of Us?
The first season of The Last of Us consists of nine episodes. The debut of “When You’re Lost in the Darkness” occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. EST.
There were originally reports that the first season will consist of 10 episodes, however, there will only be nine. That may have something to do with the fact that its opening episode is super-sized (and so a tenth episode wasn’t required), but it may also have been hearsay.

Return to Joel, who has reached Silverlake in search of Ellie when he discovers a bloody footprint in the snow. He enters the closed room to which the trail goes and discovers Ellie’s backpack.
He discovers their horse inside, as well as three headless, ankle-bound human remains. As we return to Ellie, David, and James have arrived to retrieve her, and she yells and struggles with them, biting David in the process.
David declares that she had her opportunity as he raises a butcher knife and holds her down on a table. Ellie announces that she is afflicted just before he brings it down.
David is stopped in his tracks as he recognizes the significance of the bite she just gave him. David sees the bite on Ellie’s arm, to which Ellie responds, “I guess everything happens for a purpose, right?”
James and David cannot believe it, and as they discuss it, Ellie grabs a butcher knife and stabs James in the side of the throat before fleeing as David fires at her.
Ellie escapes the room in which she has been imprisoned, and we see her in the restaurant from earlier. She then picks a flaming stick from a nearby fire.
David recklessly removes the knife from James’s lifeless body and proceeds to pursue Ellie. She conceals herself with the stick as David enters the room carrying a knife.
She misses him with the flaming stick, which swiftly catches one of the drapes on fire. David continues to search for Ellie, assuring her that there is no escape and that she cannot be infected since no infected person would struggle this hard to be alive.
Ellie inquires as to how she achieved it or whether she is simply “that f*cking special.” In the meantime, Joel searches for Ellie amid the snowfall while carrying her backpack.
Sitting at the restaurant, David talks about how excellent he is and how he might have improved Ellie’s life, repeating her real name as if it were a gift.
David argues that none of them will perish today. And that he has changed his mind, deciding that Ellie deserves a father and that he will keep and educate her.
Ellie finds a knife and gains the upper hand on David by stabbing him in the leg, causing him to knock her to the ground. David gets above her and informs her that fighting is his favorite activity.
Ellie weeps when David approaches her and declares, “There is no fear in love.” Ellie, however, seizes the butcher knife that David dropped and stabs him.
Then she climbs on top of him with the knife, repeatedly stabbing him as she screams, while David’s blood sprays in her face and the building burns around them.
Ellie flees the steakhouse after murdering David, weary. Ellie shouts again for him to get off of her as Joel finds her and surprised her, not understanding that it is Joel.
She struggles with him as he turns her around, and it takes her some time to discover it’s Joel. He cradles Ellie’s head in his hand and announces, “It’s me,” as she embraces him, finally feeling safe.
