Finally, all four members of the Fantastic Four are going to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There have been hints and dribbles of information regarding Marvel’s “First Family” throughout the years. However, with a release date finally on the ever-expanding Marvel movie release calendar and a director in the negotiations, it appears like a third iteration of the franchise may finally be occurring. The following is a rundown of all we know about the Fantastic Four movie; we will continue to add new material to this post as it becomes available.
Fantastic Four Release Date Confirmed
The Fantastic Four film, which was announced during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, would start off Phase 6 of the MCU on November 8, 2024.
Producer and Director
In 2020, Feige confirmed that Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts will direct the film. Watts stepped down in April 2022, taking a vacation from superhero films. Sorry to everyone who believed Steven Spielberg would accept the position.
Fantastic Four Cast
Although no one has been officially cast, persistent reports regarding the leading candidates for the parts are still circulating. For instance, stories about you and Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl frequently surface. The performers who appear to be most likely to be cast have odds calculated by betting websites.
John David Washington and Dan Stevens are among the favorites to play Reed Richards, while Zac Efron and Anthony Ramos are the favorites to play Johnny Storm. Lily James, Samara Weaving, and Sue Storm seem to be popular picks (though back when John Krasinski was still a legit frontrunner, Emily Blunt was also up there). The best candidates for the Thing are Dean Norris and Stephen Graham.
Who won’t appear in the film is something we do know. Anyone from the earlier Fantastic Four films may be ruled out, notably Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan, who both portrayed Johnny Storm (also known as the Human Torch) and now play separate roles in the MCU.
Feige has revealed that this reboot is not an origin narrative.
Wait, Is fantastic that four Already Released
There have been several Fantastic Four films, but there has been no formal involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There was a 1994 version that was never released, as well as a 2005 version starring Jessica Alba and Chris Evans (which also got a sequel in 2007). Fox attempted to create a new Fantastic Four film in 2015.
HOWEVER, WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG TO CREATE?
X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four were among the A-list Marvel characters that Disney did not legally control for a while. The MCU was unable to utilize Spider-Man until 2016, as the character belonged to Sony.
In 2017, Disney agreed to purchase 21st Century Fox, and then-Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated that the X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four will eventually be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The transaction was finalized in March 2019, and Marvel studio boss Kevin Feige announced the Fantastic Four film during that year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
