Beetlejuice, one of Tim Burton’s first and most successful films, is finally getting a sequel after years of development hell, and it’s hoping to recruit fan-favorite Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega in a significant part.
Beetlejuice, which was released in 1988, was an instant blockbuster with moviegoers, launching the careers of Tim Burton and Winona Ryder and generating a cartoon series, a line of action figures, and a successful Broadway musical.
Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis feature in the film as a recently departed couple who, after failing to haunt their home, hire the exorcist Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to frighten its new residents, the Deetzes (Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder).
The plot of Beetlejuice 2 is unknown, as the sequel has undergone several revisions since 1990, although Keaton is slated to reprise the main role.
The original version reintroduced Keaton’s “bio-exorcist” to Hawaii, although it is unknown if this concept would be incorporated into the new picture.
With Ortega in discussions to join the cast as the daughter of Lydia Deetz (played by Ryder in the original film), Beetlejuice 2 will likely center on the next generation, with Ortega providing a Gen Z touch to the sequel, as she did in Netflix’s recent take on the Addams Family.
Will Lydia’s daughter (Ortega) call upon Beetlejuice for assistance, as her mother did many years ago? The anticipation of fans is warranted.

Beetlejuice 2 Release Date
Beetlejuice 2’s official release date has yet to be confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming is scheduled to begin in London in late May or early June, suggesting that Burton has a screenplay in place.
Beetlejuice 2 Cast Rumors
According to Variety, Tim Burton is expected to direct the picture and Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Beetlejuice.
According to the newspaper, Jenna Ortega is in discussions to play Lydia Deetz’s daughter, who was portrayed by Winona Ryder in the original film.
This is Ortega’s second collaboration with Burton, who was an executive producer and directed four of the eight episodes of the rebooted Netflix series Wednesday.
Ortega told RadioTimes.com in an exclusive interview that he was ordered by Burton on Wednesday: “He calmed me down. When he employs an actor, he has entire faith in them.
He was undoubtedly one of my pillars on the set. Because I didn’t want her to be like every other adolescent girl, he frequently solicited my opinion, and I got quite possessive of the character.”
She went on: “It’s difficult when she’s being pursued by males, attending school dances, and just being in that environment.
It was a delight when Tim would summon me to his trailer in the morning and ask, “Which lines do you want to cut?” What do you want to keep in? What would you want to say as an alternative?”
She went on: “He was constantly interested in what I had to say and consistently sought my approval. I have full faith in him.
I was rather awestruck by his extraordinary accomplishments. He is really kind and courteous, and working with him was one of my favorite director experiences.”
Ryder has already indicated an interest in repeating her original film role.
In 2013, she told The Daily Beast that the sequel “appears to be in the works.”
“There is no remake. It’s been 27 years, “Initially, Ryder clarified. “And I must admit that I adore Lydia. She was an integral part of me. I’d be quite curious to know what she’s doing 27 years later.”
She went on: “I would never touch [a sequel] if Tim and Michael were not involved. Because I adore those men.”
Moreover, Burton has already teased that Ryder may appear in a sequel to his cult hit.
In 2016, Burton stated to Collider, “This is what I’m interested in. But the truth is that I have spoken with Michael and Winona, as well as a few other individuals. It’s something I’d love to do under the proper conditions, but it’s one of those films where everything must be perfect.
“It’s not the type of film that demands a sequel; it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy. So it’s something that, if the components are perfect – because I really adore the character and Michael is phenomenal as that guy – it’s something that might happen. But there is currently nothing solid.”
