The IPL 2022 preparations are well underway, with ten teams expected to compete this time. Along with the existing eight franchises, BCCI has already identified two new franchises: Lucknow and Ahmedabad, which will compete in the 2022 seasons. The IPL 2022 mega auction is expected to take place on February 12 and 13, 2022, according to the latest reports. Bengaluru will host the mammoth auction. The IPL 2022 mega auction, like the previous mega auction in 2018, will last two days. Previously, the mega auction for the IPL 2022 season was planned to take place in the first or second week of January.
The deadline was pushed out to February.
The auctions will feature 10 franchises: Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad. For the auction, each team has a wage cap of Rs. 90 crore.
So far, the old eight franchises have kept a total of 27 players on their rosters. There are 19 Indian players and 8 international players among them.
In addition, there are four uncapped players on the retention lists. All of the old teams were allowed to keep a maximum of four players on their rosters. There can be a maximum of three domestic players and two international players.
There is a probability that the 2022 IPL auction would be postponed to a later date. The reason for this is that the two new teams were anticipated to select three players from the pool of released players for their squads prior to the auction.
This process had a December 25 deadline, however, could not be completed on time due to problems with Ahmedabad franchise owner CVC Capitals. The two new franchises are anticipated to choose their three players this month, and the IPL 2022 mega auction will take place on the previously planned dates of February 12 and 13.
In IPL 2022, Lucknow is one of two new franchises. Rajiv Goenka’s RPSG Group owns the Lucknow franchise. For the Lucknow team, the group paid Rs. 7090 crores in bidding. During the bidding process, this was the highest bid BCCI got.
In the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the RPSG Group controlled the Rising Pune Supergiants. Lucknow is in negotiations with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for the captaincy, according to sources. In addition, during IPL 2022, the team may be known as the Lucknow Scorchers.
CVC Capitals owns the Ahmedabad franchise. It is a British private equity firm that also invests in sports such as Formula One, football, and rugby. To obtain ownership of the team, the group offered a bidding amount of Rs. 5,625 crore. According to rumours, the team may enter the championship under the moniker Ahmedabad Renegades.
