IPL Mega Auction: Top 3 Picks by Mumbai Indians

Jeremy Caroll

One of the successful franchises in the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians will once again be looking for massive win in the upcoming IPL season. It is the only team to win the IPL title five times (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020).

Here are the top 3 picks of MI for the upcoming seaon of Indian Premier League –

Jofra Archer:Despite the fact that his participation in the IPL 2022 auction came with the caveat that he would only be available to play in the IPL from 2023, Mumbai Indians were keen to spend money to get the England pacer’s services, with a winning price of INR 8 crore. The Mumbai Indians appear to be pleased with his choice to recruit English cricketer Jofra Archer, who is regarded as one of the world’s fastest  bowlers. He’s seems to have a fantastic career with his national team.

Ishan Kishan: Mumbai Indies clinched the most expensive player of the Mega Auction, breaking their bank for Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan was bought for a whopping 15.25 crore by Mumbai Indians, who grabbed the deal from Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were keen on bidding for the young and brilliant wicket-keeper/batsman.

Kishan gives management more flexibility when it comes to putting together a team around him. Kishan has a strike rate of over 130 in all phases and, with the exception of off-spin, has a good record against all bowling styles. Ishan Kishan was not retained by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL mega auction, instead electing to keep Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Southpaw Kishan, known for his aggressive hitting, has 1452 runs at a strike rate of 136.34 in 61 IPL matches, with his highest score of 99 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2020. Since entering the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2018, Kishan has amassed 1133 runs with a strike rate of 138 in 45 games.

Kishan’s fascination arises from his ability to attack the bowling from the first ball. Batters tend to accelerate later in the innings, thus looking at the eventual strike rates in T20 can be deceiving, according to analysts. As a result, people who go all-in from the start are in high demand. In MI’s last 2021 league stage encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kishan demonstrated his aggressiveness by smashing 84 off 32 balls.

In a long bidding war between KKR and MI, MI bagged the deal at massive amount of Rs. 8.25 crore. Tim is a exciting batsman and has played T20 cricket. His skills will surely help MI get benefits.
