Adam, who wore jersey number 47, was not only a fantastic athlete on the rink but also a fantastic teammate and person off the court. Adam’s unexpected departure has deeply saddened the entire organization, from players to staff.”
Johnson’s mother, who was struggling under the weight of her loss, resorted to social media to vent her grief, writing, “I lost half my heart today.” The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) stated Sunday’s scheduled matches across the UK would be postponed as a token of respect and in the aftermath of this extremely painful occurrence.

Johnson was born in Hibbing, Minnesota. Following his high school graduation, he played junior hockey in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Indiana Ice and Sioux City Musketeers. After going undrafted, he played two seasons of collegiate hockey in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Johnson clinched Minnesota-Duluth’s position in the 2017 Frozen Four with a power play goal in overtime that helped the team defeat Boston University, 3-2, after playing for the Bulldogs for two seasons in 2016-17, finishing second on the team in goals and points with 18 goals in 42 games. Johnson and the Bulldogs were defeated 3-2 by the University of Denver in the NCAA championship game.

After being called at about 8:20 p.m., the Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and a critical care paramedic to the arena. Adam Johnson was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for treatment.
