For a long time, it was considered very tacky to be able to see a thong at the top of someone’s pants. But it looks like women are taking back their power, and the trend is back with a bang, showing that saucy lingerie doesn’t need to be hidden. Searches for “visible lingerie” have gone up 113% in the last month, according to data from Lounge. This shows that people want to try out the look in full force.

After years of dreading a VPL (visible panty line), the trend of showing a visible thong from the early 2000s is now front and centre in the world of fashion.

In the past few years, corsets and lacy bodysuits have become part of our everyday looks, but now it’s time for the bottom half to make a comeback. A lot of celebrities, like Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber, have worn this look on red carpets and on Instagram, and it seems like the rest of us want to copy them.

But Sarah Martin-Allon, Chief Brand Officer at Lounge, told us how to show off your thong with confidence. This is something that can be a little scary for some people.

She said: “A surefire way to make your underwear centre stage in your outfit is to pair a bright-coloured thong with some monochrome or neutrals.

“For example, pairing denim jeans or black trousers with a bright red thong can give a much-needed pop of colour to your OOTD, match this with a red heel or handbag and you’ve got the perfect look.”

Another way to wear the look with pride is by thinking of your thong as an accessory. She said that if you choose a thong with a cute detail, like flower embroidery or a bow, your underwear will be the centre of attention. Sarah said that you can also take advantage of the trend by choosing a thong or g-string with a cut-out design. Instead of keyholes in your tops, try a cute cutout on your lower back.
