On March 2, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, John Francis Bongiovi Jr. was born. His father and mother are both retired Marines. His father worked as a barber, as did his grandfather. His mother worked as a Playboy Bunny and afterward as a floral designer. It’s no secret that he comes from an Italian family that’s quite close. Raze, his first band was formed when he was just 13 years old and he began playing guitar and piano.
As a freshman and sophomore, Jon attended St. Joseph High School before transferring to Sayreville War Memorial High School for his junior and senior years. Career
In the spring of 1983, Jon contacted David Bryan, who in turn contacted Alec John Such and Tico Torres, the band’s bassist, and drummer, respectively. Richie Sambora, the band’s new guitarist, joined shortly thereafter. “Runaway,” the band’s debut single, was recorded by Jon and the band. Despite Jon’s best efforts, he was unable to convince any of the city’s radio stations to play his track until one particular DJ did so. “Runaway” became an instant smash and peaked at number 40.
