Moonlight Chicken Episode 2 Recap
A Day Out with Leng, Praew, Li Ming, Wen, and Jim
Leng and Praew are hanging out, and Leng tells Praew about his dream of a silver necklace. Praew thinks they might have a daughter if they do. He tells her to come up with lottery numbers instead, and then Li Ming shows up and makes fun of them. As they walk back to their house, Leng asks about school. When Li Ming looks at a work brochure, he says that he hasn’t decided which college to go to.
When they get to the restaurant, Leng shows Wen the way to the kitchen. Jim tells Li Ming that he and Wen are just friends because Li Ming remembered Wen from the night before. Jim then tells him to be careful around Supoch, and Li Ming tells him to stop bugging him and leaves.
Heart keeps stopping Li Ming from cleaning the Supochs’ house, so they drop the bucket. Li Ming asks Heart to help him mop the floor, but Heart doesn’t listen. Li Ming puts his hand on the mop, and they both look at each other. Heart stops trying and starts to mop.
Jim tells Wen he can leave when the diner closes, but Wen tells him to show him how to cut up the chicken so he can help the next time. Wen keeps looking at him with love, which makes Jim feel awkward. Wen asks for a beer when they’re done, but Jim says he prefers to drink alone. Jim also tells Wen that if he spends all of his money on beer, he won’t have any left, and Wen jokes that he might not be working for the money. Jim gives him a can of beer as he is leaving.
Friendship, Opportunities, and New Beginnings
The next day, Leng and Praew go to Gaipa’s shop and talk before giving a list of what they need for the dinner. Gaipa notices that the writing is different, and Leng tells him that the person who wrote it is Wen. He says that Wen doesn’t fit in because he seems to be rich, but he’s handsome, and he tells Gaipa not to fall for him. Gaipa goes to the diner and meets Wen as he brings desserts to Jim.
Wen goes to the back of the room while the two old friends talk about the construction of the Marina Food Court. When Wen asks for directions, there is an awkward silence. Jim tells Gaipa that Wen is the new waiter. Gaipa tells Jim that he could have helped out instead of hiring new help. Jim says that the diner isn’t busy and that Wen, who looks sad, won’t be there for long.
When asked about college at school, Li Ming says he isn’t sure, while his friends talk about the private universities they might go to as a way to show off their money. Then they look at some photos of pretty girls, which makes Li Ming feel bad. He gets his assignment and sees that he failed, which makes him sad.
He goes to the diner, where Jim tells him he signed him up for a free tutoring class. Li Ming is upset that Jim didn’t ask him first, so he goes to his job at Supoch’s. Wen finds a pamphlet about how to work and travel while he is cleaning up, and he looks in Li Ming’s direction. The heart is watching a movie at Supoch’s, and she tells Li Ming that he doesn’t have to do any housework. They talk back and forth while writing on a notepad, and Heart says she’s sorry about the bottle.
Conflicts and Challenges: The Story of Jim, Wen, Li Ming, and Heart
While this is going on, Jim is going through the bills. He smiles when he sees that Gaipa has paid for most of them. He looks in the trash can and sees a beer. As he thinks about Wen and Gaipa, he feels torn. At that moment, Leng comes over with Praew and tells Jim she is pregnant. Praew says that they have to get married or her parents won’t let it happen. They start to fight because Leng doesn’t have the money. Jim tells them to wait and figure something out.
Jim has to pay for his car insurance the next day, but instead of doing that, he uses the money to buy something at the mall. He sees Wen at work as a planner for events and says hello. Wen takes him out to lunch, and during the meal, Jim realizes that he isn’t doing as well as he seems to be. Wen needs to go back to work, so he buys snacks for himself and leaves.
But Wen sees Li Ming at a work and travel organization’s booth in the mall and asks him about it. He helps him get the information and then asks Jim what he thinks about it. The boy says he hasn’t told his uncle what he thinks about it. Heart, meanwhile, is waiting for Li Ming and looks sad when he thinks he won’t show up.
Li Ming shows up and is ready to help, but Heart tells him to watch a Thai movie without subtitles and tells him what happens in the important scenes. Li Ming seems upset, but he agrees. As they watch, Li Ming tells him he can help him with any other movie he wants that doesn’t have subtitles.
Heart thanks him for listening to him, and Li Ming asks him to go to the movies with him. Heart tells him that he can’t because his mom won’t let him go outside. Li Ming puts a comforting hand on his shoulder and a sad smile on his face.

Between Love and Dreams: A Heartfelt Confession
Jim gives Leng snacks at the diner, and Leng makes fun of him for giving him leftovers. He finds a gold necklace. Jim tells him that he bought it for him as Praew’s dowry, which makes Leng feel sad. He also tells Jim to settle down soon because he can’t be alone and has to choose between two people (is he referring to Wen and Gaipa?). He says this while looking at Wen.
At that moment, Wen gets a very important call from his day job, and Jim drives him there. They run into a couple on a bike as they are parking. Jim realizes he didn’t renew his car insurance when the couple asks him for 3,000 baht. He looks in his car for the money, but Wen gives it to them instead. He says it happened because he needed a ride and then leaves. Jim thanks him by buying him two beers, but when he gets there, he sees Wen chatting happily with a coworker and leaves.
Wen sees and goes after him to see Jim smoking and drinking alone. Wen calls him a cynic, and he says that life is harsh. They talk about their dreams, and Wen says he wants a home where someone is waiting for him. He tries to kiss Jim as they look at each other, but the older man tells him to stop. Wen stops and says sorry for making him feel bad (we love a consent king). Jim doesn’t care, but he tells Wen not to waste his time because he can’t be at anyone’s home.
