Following Ichigo Kurosaki as he returns to the world of Hollows and Soul Reapers when a new threat arrives, the first half of the direct sequel to the Bleach anime series covers the final plot arc of the manga on which the series was based.

Ryuuken Ishida, the father of Uryu, is engaged to be married to Masaki Kurosaki, a pure-blood Quincy, and so the Kurosakis are staying at the Ishida home in anticipation of their wedding.
They still don’t like the Shinigamis a thousand years after they wiped off the Quincies, so they wait for the Seireitei residents to perish before moving in. Masaki, however, was not like the others; she rushed in to help Isshin and ended up killing the horrific Hollow, despite being bitten in the process. As soon as the hollowing began, Masaki blacked out.
